History of vivienne westwood

1970
First shop “Let It Rock” has been opened by Vivienne westwood and her partner Malcolm McLaren in London
Rock 'n' Roll was not popular
They sold Fifties Rock 'n' Roll records and memorabilia as well as stock of Fifties inspired designs.


1972
The shop relocated and changed its name to “Too Fast to Live, Too Young To Die”
leather clothing adorned with zips and chains, tee shirts emblazoned with slogans and pornographic images as well as zoot suits worn by Black Americans were sold


1974
Shop name changed to “Sex”
Rubber S&M clothing, ripped clothes and tee-shirts with pornographic text and images were sold in the shop.
Vivienne Westwood designs clothes for the band the New York Dolls


1976
Punk style is born. The band (Sex pistols) play their first gig wearing clothes from the shop at 430 Kings Road which has by now been renamed Seditonaries.
The clothes represented the culmination of Vivienne Westwood's work .
All features Zips, rips, chains, bondage, porn and slogans gives a look that would have a revolutionary impact on high fashion.


1981
Vivienne Westwood's first runway show ('Pirate' collection) presented at Olympia in London in March.
Vivienne westwood changes her interest in street style and begins her technical research into historical dress with this collection, adopting and reinterpreting original cutting principles into her patterns and making them modern.
The shop at 430 King's Road is once again redecorated and renamed World's End.


1982
Vivienne Westwood shows her 'Nostalgia of Mud' collection in Paris.
Vivienne Westwood opens her first shop in a central London location, Nostalgia of Mud.


1983
The partnership with Malcolm McLaren ends.
In 'Witches' collection, she continues to work with ethnic inspirations and geometrical cuts.


1984
Vivienne Westwood presents her 'Hypnos' and 'Clint Eastwood' collections.


1985
Vivienne Westwood emphasises the small waist instead of the shoulders in the 'Mini Crini' collection.


1987
She returns to the London catwalks after an absence of five years to show her 'Harris Tweed' collection.


1988
a second London shop opened in the exclusive district of Mayfair


1989
from the collection “Chic Savages” Vivienne Westwood was rated one of the six best designers in the world in fashion bible.
